PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
DC12 (1,10-Decanedioic Acid) is a long chain dicarboxylic acid, which comes as a highly pure and white substance in powder or flake form.

Dodecanedioic acid, also known as DDDA or DC12, is a dicarboxylic acid with the chemical formula C12H22O4. It belongs to the family of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, which are organic compounds and contain two terminal carboxylic acid functional groups (-COOH).

Dodecanedioic acid is composed of an unbranched carbon backbone containing 12 carbon atoms. The carbon chain provides flexibility and hydrophobic properties to the acid.
Dodecanedioic acid can be derived from various sources, mainly petrochemical feedstocks. It is
typically produced by the microbial fermentation of alkanes.

The diacid is a white, crystalline solid with a relatively high melting point. It is sparingly soluble in water but dissolves in organic solvents like MTBE. Corvay works with competitive and reliable manufacturers of dodecanedioic acid, who hold REACH registration. Therefore Corvay is a trusted part of its customers' supply chain.

DDDA has several useful properties that make it valuable in various applications. It exhibits excellent chemical stability, thermal resistance, and low volatility. It is also non-toxic and biodegradable, which makes it an environmentally friendly option in many applications.
Due to its unique characteristics, DC12 has several applications in different industries. Corvay
supplies Dodecanedioic Acid to this variety of industries.

REFERENCE TO REGULATIONS
Chemical is REACh registered.

APPLICATIONS

  • Polymers
  • Fibres
  • Adhesives
  • Lubricants
  • Corrosion inhibitors
  • Powder coatings
  • Cross-linkers
  • Fragrances

Here are some of the common applications of DDDA:

Polyamides (PA):

Dodecanedioic acid is used as a key raw material in the production of Polyamide 6,12. It undergoes polymerization with hexamethylenediamine to form PA 6,12, which has excellent
chemical resistance and good thermal stability. It also has low moisture absorption and therefore has excellent dimensional stability. PA 6,12 finds applications in the automotive industry, coatings, adhesives, and textiles.

Polyesters:

The use of DDDA in polyester applications provides desirable properties, including improved strength, durability, chemical resistance, and thermal stability.

Powder Coatings: Dodecanedioic acid is utilized as crosslinker in powder coatings. Powder coatings offer durability, corrosion resistance, and an attractive finish. DC12 contributes to the formation of cross-linked polymers during the curing process, enhancing the properties of the powder coatings.

Corrosion Inhibitors:

DDDA is employed as a corrosion inhibitor in various industries, including oil and gas, metalworking, and water treatment. It forms a protective film on metal surfaces, preventing corrosion caused by exposure to corrosive environments.

Adhesives and Sealants:

Dodecanedioic acid is used in the production of hotmelts and sealants. It acts as a curing agent in epoxy-based adhesives and sealants, providing improved adhesion, strength, and resistance to moisture and chemicals.

Plasticizers:

DC12 can be esterified to produce dodecanedioic esters, which are used as plasticizers in polymers and resins. These plasticizers enhance the flexibility, workability, and durability of the materials.

Lubricants:

Dodecanedioic acid is employed in the production of synthetic lubricants. It can be reacted with alcohols to form esters, which exhibit excellent lubricating properties, thermal stability, and low volatility.

Personal Care Products:

DDDA and its derivatives are utilized in the manufacturing of personal care products, such as shampoos, conditioners, and skin creams. They can act as emollients, humectants, and conditioning agents, providing moisturizing and softening effects.

Chemical Intermediates:

Dodecanedioic acid serves as a valuable chemical intermediate for the synthesis of various compounds, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals.

The applications of dodecanedioic acid are not limited to the above-mentioned areas. The ongoing research may uncover new uses for this versatile compound in the future.
